I even tried putting all photos in a single album (on the web version) hoping that, by opening it on Android, it would trigger restoring all the backed-up photos. And from then on I only see random photos (like one for every album/date) although there are many other photos that should be restored. What I can add more: I see many recent photos being synced in the app all the way back to about 2019. So, it looks like it's an issue combined between most recent app version and backed up data in Google Drive. The result: the same problem being stuck on "getting ready to backup". I can confirm that if I use a different account (that doesn't have photos/videos backed up on Google Drive) it works fine.Īs I still had the former Pixel 5, I decided to test this situation (it was working fine to backup photos), so I erased the app data and reconnected my account. I also tried everything I could think of (or read about): clear cache, clear data and reconnect the account, uninstall app updates, enter recovery mode, even restored the phone to factory defaults for once (I initially transferred all data from my former Pixel 5 via cable, afterward I tried to restore from Google Drive backup, but the Google Photos app was stuck with the same issue). I started using a Pixel 6 a few weeks ago and I encounter a similar issue: "getting ready to backup" for weeks. My experience is the same, dated more recently.
